Beeswax Free & Proud

Did you know?

It takes thirty-five pounds of honey to sustain a colony of bees. The average colony makes sixty to one hundred pounds of honey per year. It takes six pounds of honey to create one pound of wax. To create one pound of honey, two million flowers must be visited.

Here at Bali Balm, we don’t use a single droplet of beeswax in any of our products. We’re committed to being 100% vegan, which means we don’t use the natural resources of bees for our own gain.

Bees use their wax to create honeycombs. It can take seven days to up to 2 months to create their honeycomb. Their honeycombs are used to store larvae, honey, and pollen. Extracting wax from the honeycombs is essentially destroying their nests and food storage.

So, instead of bringing harm to bees, we use Candelilla wax, a plant-based wax extracted from succulents found in Mexico and North America.

We use Candelilla wax over beeswax for several reasons:
  • The process doesn’t harm any animals.
  • It creates a protective barrier for the skin while staying moisturising.
  • It’s by far the most ethical and environmentally friendly alternative to beeswax.
  • It leaves your lips with a natural glow.
  • Air pollution inhibits bees from being able to forage effectively, as air pollution dilutes the strength of floral scents. Covid-19 saw a drop in air pollution at the beginning of lockdown, making it easier for bees to forage and pollinate. Over the COVID-19 lockdown, we’ve been happy that we’ve continued to #KissThePlanet, and how we’ve been able to stay on brand by using Candelilla wax.
